Marc James Sonnen (born October 28, 1988 in Saint Paul, Minnesota ) is an American basketball player . Marc Sonnen plays the position of shooting guard . In the 2013/14 season he is under contract with ProA league club Bayer Giants Leverkusen . He wears jersey number 23 there.

Sonnen played at Tartan High School and was able to achieve some personal successes there, including being nominated as a McDonald's All-American, a very important award in the USA.

After he finished high school, Sonnen had several offers from various universities. He chose the University of Northern Iowa because it wasn't that far from his parents' home.

In the 2009/10 season, the Panthers surprisingly reached the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship (round of 16 for the University Basketball Championship ). In the course of the tournament they beat the number one University of Kansas . Sonnen helped his team with 2.8 points per game. His last year in the NCAA was also his most successful. Sonnen had 10.5 points per game (44.7% hit rate for long-range throws) and was able to secure 2.4 rebounds per round.

In August 2013, the champion of the ProB and promoted to the ProA , the Bayer Giants Leverkusen , announced the commitment of Marc James Sonnen. The signed contract was initially valid until December 2013. Shortly before Sonnen's working paper ran out, the Giants extended it until the end of the 2013/14 season.

In the season to date (as of February 2014), Sonnen is one of the top performers of the German record champions. He comes to an average of 13.4 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per encounter. Sonnen played his best game on January 12, 2014 against Otto Baskets Magdeburg . In the 101: 81 success of the "Giant from the Rhine", Sonnen got 27 points and 6 rebounds.
