Marcel Kirstges (born May 29, 1991 in Düsseldorf ) is a German athlete who mainly competes in the long jump , but also in the short sprint. He has also been a member of the German national bobsleigh team since the 2017/2018 winter season.

Life

After primary school in his hometown Urmitz , Kirstges attended the elite sports school in Koblenz from 2001 . In 2010 he graduated from high school and was named Elite Student of the Year 2010 by his school and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

After graduating from high school, Kirstges completed a voluntary social year at the Rhineland Athletics Association (LVR). In 2011, Kirstges began studying sports management at the Rhein Ahr campus in Remagen. Since 2013 he has been completing the international management course set up for top athletes as a distance learning course at Ansbach University .

In addition to his sporting career, Kirstges works as a trainer for various associations. As a part-time job, he works as an educational supervisor in the sports boarding school at the Hermann-Neuberger-Sportschule in Saarbrücken . This sports boarding school is affiliated with the elite sports school, the Rothenbühl sports high school.

Marcel Kirstges lived, worked and trained at the Hermann-Neuberger-Sportschule in Saarbrücken since spring 2012. Kirstges now lives in Leverkusen and Saarbrücken.

Clubs and coaches

Kirstges began his sporting career in 1997 at SV Urmitz under Kurt Schüller. In 2005/06 he trained with Winfried Wirth on TV Mülheim. In 2007 he moved to LG Rhein-Wied . There he was trained by Manfred Jürgenliemk and Martin Schmitz. National coach Ulli Knapp has trained him since then. In 2015 he moved from the LG Rhein-Wied to the LAZ Saar 05 Saarbrücken athletics community. From 2018 he starts for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Since 2018 he has been coached by Hans-Jörg Thomaskamp and Ulli Knapp.

Since the 2017/2018 winter season, Kirstges has also been a member of the German national bobsleigh team. He starts as a pusher for the pilot Pablo Nolte. His winter sports club is the BSC Winterberg.

Achievements - athletics

Marcel Kirstges is the Rhineland record holder in the long jump (7.74 m). In the Saarland Athletics Association he is in third place in the all-time list of the best. In 2016, Kirstges was in 7th place in the German men's long jump. Marcel Kirstges only had international starts in the youth class.
