Marcel Miquel (born December 12, 1913 in Bédarieux , † February 7, 1994 in Cannes ) was a French football player .

Career

Miquel began playing football in 1923 with the US Bédarieux in his hometown. The striker stayed with this club throughout his youth before moving to FC Sète in 1932 at the age of 18 . This year Sète was one of the 20 co-founders of Division 1 , which was introduced as the nationwide first division. In the new division, Sète proved to be one of the strongest teams in France and was able to win the championship title with a narrow margin at the end of the 1933/34 season. Marcel Miquel didn't have a regular seat at the time, but was involved in the success through six season appearances. In addition to winning the championship, he also made it into the national cup final in 1934 , in which Sète met Olympique Marseille . With the help of Miquel, the team turned the game around after an early 0-1 deficit with two goals from István Lukács and thus also won the cup. In the following season 1934/35 a possible title defense in both competitions was clearly missed.

In 1935 the striker left Sète and joined league rivals AS Cannes . This was only a stopover for him, as he moved again in 1936 and signed with Olympique Marseille. There he was exposed to considerable competition on the offensive with the national players Émile Zermani and Ignace Kowalczyk as well as the also well-known Mario Zatelli and Edmund Weiskopf and could not fight for a permanent place. In total, he was part of a team in eleven league games that ultimately prevailed against FC Sochaux thanks to the better goal difference and thus secured the championship title of 1937. After his second league title, Miquel said goodbye to the top division and found a new employer in the second division OGC Nice . He competed for Nice until 1939, when the Second World War led to the cessation of regular gaming. This ended the professional career of the then 25-year-old player who was active as a professional exclusively for clubs based on the French Mediterranean coast.
