Marcel Pérès (musician)

Marcel Pérès (born July 15, 1956 ) is a French church musician , composer and musicologist . He heads the Ensemble Organum .

Life

Marcel Pérès first studied organ music at the Nice Music Academy. Pérès continued his studies in church music in England at the Royal School of Church Music and in Montreal in the field of early music .

After his return from Canada, Marcel Pérès trained in medieval music under the direction of Michel Huglo at the Institut École pratique des hautes études .

In 1982 he founded the Ensemble Organum . With this ensemble, Pérès began, after previous scientific work and research, to convert the less known areas of medieval music, in particular the church chant of the Roman Catholic Church, starting from the 6th to the 13th century, in a contemporary acoustic form.

From 1984 Marcel Pérès became the head of the Association for the Research and Interpretation of Medieval Music and Ancient Roman Church Chants. The association carries out its scientific activities in the Royaumont monastery . So far, musical research results have been implemented acoustically by the Ensemble Organum every year. Marcel Pérès is also internationally active together with the Greek church musician Lykourgos A. Angelopoulos .
