The Catholic parish church Maria Königin des Friedens is a Catholic church built in 1998 in the Dölau district of Halle (Saale) . It is the youngest church in the city and one of two Catholic churches in the parish of Zappendorf -Dölau, which belongs to the parish of Halle-Nord ( Carl Lampert parish ) in the Halle dean's office of the Magdeburg diocese .

history

A Catholic church was built in Zappendorf as early as 1868, because since the middle of the 19th century, in the course of industrialization, numerous Catholic immigrants from Eichsfeld , Silesia and Poland came to the area around Salzmünde , where they mainly bought the property of the agricultural entrepreneur Johann Gottfried Boltze worked.

In 1953 the Zappendorfer Church in Dölau established a pastoral care center; since 1954 there has been a Catholic parish in Dölau. Until 1990 the service took place in an emergency church, a converted dance hall. The Protestant church in Dölau could also be used.

Since the community expanded from 1990 and the building had to be returned to the emergency church, the Magdeburg diocese decided to build a new building. The foundation stone was laid on November 15, 1997 and the church was consecrated on December 6, 1998. The parish apartment and community rooms were connected to the church building.

Architecture and equipment

The pavilion-like church building, designed by the Halle architect Reinhard Rüger , is a central building on an octagonal floor plan that is interpreted as a symbol of harmony and community. The rectory and the parish hall are attached to the church as a wing at right angles to each other. The church is not separated from the adjoining parish rooms and in this design should be a symbol for the open church. The connection in the resulting angle is created by an entrance foyer. The closings of the rectory and parish hall were designed polygonally.

The altar is in the center of the church space under a skylight. The seating is arranged around the altar so that it is not only the center of liturgical events, but also forms the spatial center of the church.

The window pictures designed and painted by the Magdeburg artist Maren-Magdalena Sorger (born 1950) were made in the Peters glass painting workshop in Paderborn. They depict scenes from the life of the namesake Maria . The Magdeburg metal designer Egon Sellin (born 1930) created the cross, the candlestick and the tabernacle .

The church has an electronic organ from the Hoffrichter company in Salzwedel .
