Marcel Rainaud

Marcel Rainaud (born April 1, 1940 in Talairan ; † April 9, 2020 ) was a French politician ( Parti socialiste ) and teacher.

Life

Rainaud was born in 1940 in the small village of Talairan with about 500 inhabitants in the Aude department . Page parents Émile Rainaud (1920–2009) and Marcelle Rainaud (1918–2008) were winemakers. After attending primary school in Taleiran, he studied at the Lycée Henri IV in Béziers, 70 kilometers away . He then became a math teacher, which he remained until his retirement.

At the age of 18 Rainaud joined the French section of the Workers' International (SFIO) in 1958 , the predecessor of today's Parti socialiste (PS). He became a lay judge in Talairan and was mayor of Talairan from 1983 to 2000. In 1988 Rainaud was elected to the General Council of the Aude department . From 1988 to 1993 he was Joseph Vidal's (born 1933) deputy . In 1998 was appointed President of the General Council. In the same year Rainaud became deputy of Raymond Courrière (1932-2006). After his death on August 11, 2006, Marcel Rainaud moved to the French Senate on August 12, 2006 . On September 21, 2008 he was re-elected in the first round with 76% of the vote. On September 12, 2010, the seventy-year-old Rainaud told the press that he would not run again for the Lagrasse cantonal election in March 2011. He remained Senator von Aude, but did not run for the 2014 Senate elections.
