Career

In the club

The defender began his career in Dynamo Güstrow's youth and became a professional at FC Berlin in 1993 . After one season he moved to 1. FC Köln , where he was never able to assert himself with many coach changes due to his susceptibility to injury and only made four appearances. That is why he moved to Arminia Bielefeld in 1998 , but due to many injuries he only played a Bundesliga role and so Marcell Fensch moved to the second division club SV Babelsberg 03 in 2001 . He played there for four years and ended his career in the summer of 2005. Until the end of 2008 he was chairman of the youth committee at SV Babelsberg. Since 2005 he has been the owner of a pension and a bar in Potsdam.

In the national team

In 1992 Fensch was U-16 European champion with the German U-16 team in Cyprus . Despite his many injuries, he played three appearances for the German U-21 national football team in 1998 .

Trivia

When he was to be substituted on October 14, 1997 in the Bundesliga match of 1. FC Köln against FC Schalke 04 (final score: 0: 2), this failed because he had forgotten his jersey in the dressing room. At the time when he wanted to get the jersey out of the cabin, Cologne conceded the first goal.
