Marcello Gatti

Marcello Gatti (born February 9, 1924 in Rome ; † November 26, 2013 there ) was an Italian cameraman .

Life

Gatti learned the cameraman trade from the ground up and worked with the leading Italian cameramen of the 1950s. With his documentary style, Gatti shaped a whole series of socially committed films, for example for the director Gillo Pontecorvo . He also photographed numerous inconsequential spaghetti westerns , crime films and comedies. Gatti worked for television, for example. B. in a season of the series Alone Against the Mafia .

In the course of his career, he has won a silver ribbon five times .

In 1943 Gatti was sentenced to five years imprisonment for defacing a portrait of Benito Mussolini , after which he went into exile. After starting out as a camera operator in the 1940s, he took photos for the first time in 1953 as a cameraman and in the early 1960s as the person responsible for this area. There are around 150 works in his filmography.
