Francisco Marcelo Vega Cepeda (born August 12, 1971 in Copiapó ) is a former Chilean football player . The attacking midfielder and striker was dubbed "the future Chilean Maradona " in his youth .

life and career

From 1991 to 1998 he completed 30 games for the Chilean national soccer team and scored one goal. He was at the Copa America in 1991 and 1993 . At the 1998 World Cup in France, he and his team advanced to the round of 16, where the Chileans lost 4-1 to the eventual finalists and record world champions Brazil. Vega was only used one half against Brazil; he had to pay tribute to the exceptional skills of Marcelo Salas and Iván Zamorano as well as his poor health and ended his national team career after the 1998 World Cup.

The 1.75 m tall and 76 kg heavy at his competition times, Marcelo Vega gained some international experience: 1992/1993 he was signed in Spain , 1998–2000 in the USA , 2000–2001 in Argentina and 2003 he played in Peru . Then he ended his career.

In 2009 he appeared on Chilean television on the reality show 1810 .

Marcelo Vega is married and has two children.
