Marco Basaiti
Marco Basaiti (* around 1470 in Venice ; † around 1530) was an Italian painter of the Venetian school .
Life
Basaiti worked as a painter from 1490 to 1521. He was a student of Luigi Vivarini and later an imitator of Giovanni Bellini .
Works
Basaiti executed a large number of altarpieces for Venetian churches, of which only one of the Assumption of Mary in San Pietro in Murano and the images of St. Peter and St. George with the dragon in San Pietro di Castello have remained in place. After Alvise Vivarini's death , Basaiti completed the altarpiece of Saint Ambrose and other Saints , which he had begun in 1503, in the northern chapel of the transept of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari .
Other works have found their way into the collection of the Academy in Venice, Bergamo , Padua , Berlin , Vienna and other places. In these pictures, as in various depictions of Jerome in the desert , the landscapes in particular are distinguished by their grace.
