Mark Gillespie (born November 17, 1970 in Stockport , Great Britain ) is the guitarist and singer of the Mark Gillespie Band from Gießen an der Lahn .

Gillespie came to Giessen as a street musician . There he actually only wanted to record a CD with the later members of today's Mark Gillespie Band (next to himself today: Peter Herrmann (bass), Thomas Dill (guitar), Oliver Jäger (keyboard), Markus Leukel (drums)) to make his to finance another musical journey through the streets of Europe. Since the musicians got along so well in the studio, they wanted to be on stage together, so Mark stayed in Gießen.

Today he's no longer playing just down the street (but also) but is touring all over Germany, including as support for Manfred Mann , Jethro Tull , Meat Loaf and Lisa Stansfield .

On February 5, 2008, the band announced their departure from Thomas Dill in a newsletter. Successor as guitarist was Gerd Stein , who had been courted before .

Gillespie plays on the street, for example. B. at the Bardentreffen in Nuremberg , the Rudolstadt Festival in Rudolstadt and often in the pedestrian zone of Göttingen, where he achieved cult status with his performances in the Irish Pub and the Musa . Here, but also in his numerous solo appearances in smaller clubs and the like. you can watch how he repeatedly recomposes and rewrites songs from his musical repertoire. He himself once described it as something that could be viewed in English as a "chain of consciousness". He also uses a loop machine.

In addition to songs that he composed himself, Mark Gillespie also covers songs from bygone days from Eric Clapton to Pink Floyd . Since December 2011 he has been touring with the tribute band Kings Of Floyd.
