Marco Blaauw (born September 23, 1965 in Lichtenvoorde ) is a Dutch trumpeter.

biography

Marco Blaauw learned to play the trumpet in the last year of primary school. He later studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and later continued his studies a. a. continued with Pierre Thibaud and Markus Stockhausen . Marco Blaauw has been a permanent member of the Cologne-based Ensemble MusikFabrik since 1994. Engagements as a soloist led him a. a. for collaboration with the Dutch Radio Symphony Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne , the Klangforum Wien , the London Sinfonietta, and the Asko | Schönberg Ensemble.

The further development of the trumpet, its technique and its repertoire is one of Marco Blaauw's goals. He complements his engagement in ensemble music with solo projects in the field of composed and improvised contemporary music and intensive collaboration with well-known and young composers of our time. Several works have been written for him or suggested by him, including compositions by Péter Eötvös , Richard Ayres , Isabel Mundry , Rebecca Saunders and Hanna Kulenty .

Since 1998 he has worked intensively with Karlheinz Stockhausen . Blaauw was involved in numerous world premieres within the opera cycle LICHT . In August 2008 he played in the première of Harmonies for Trumpet from the Klang cycle for BBC Radio at the Royal Albert Hall in London .

Among other things, he teaches at the Stockhausen courses in Kürten and the Darmstadt summer courses and regularly leads master classes. Since 2000 he has also been working with musical amateurs, whom he would like to bring closer to the sounds and ideas of contemporary music . Since 2008 he has been a lecturer at the University of Lucerne in the subjects of interpretation in contemporary music and classical trumpet.
