Marco Padalino (born December 8, 1983 in Viganello ) is a former Swiss football player .

Career

In the club

The career of Swiss football player Marco Padalino began at FC Lugano . Because of the bankruptcy of the club in March 2003 Padalino had to change clubs, he came under Malcantone Agno in the Challenge League . Roberto Morinini , his former coach in Lugano , arranged the transfer to Italy to Catania Calcio in January 2004 , where Padalino was often used, especially at the beginning. In 2005 he left Sicily for Piacenza Calcio . In the small town in northern Italy he developed into a top performer, aroused the interest of various clubs from Italy's top division with strong performances over the course of four years .

In the summer of 2008, the midfielder made the big leap into Serie A. Sampdoria Genoa let his commitment cost the equivalent of four million francs . In 2010 he played with the Ligurians in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League play-offs . Just a year later, he relegated his club to Serie B , but in spring 2012 managed to get promoted back to the top Italian league after winning the play-off final against Varese Calcio. In Serie A, however, Padalino no longer played a role in the plans of the new coach Ciro Ferrara and switched to Vicenza Calcio in Serie B at the beginning of September 2012. From 2014 to 2018 he played in FC Lugano.

In the national team

In November 2008, at the age of 24, Marco Padalino was appointed to the Swiss national team for the first time by national coach Ottmar Hitzfeld . He made his debut for Switzerland on February 11, 2009 in a 1-1 draw against Bulgaria .
