Viganello is a district (until 2004 an independent political municipality ) of the city of Lugano in the Lugano Ost district , in the Lugano district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

geography

The Viganello district is between 275 and 321 m above sea level. M. at the foot of Monte Brè , on the left bank of the Cassarate river and 2 km north of Lugano. The towns of Albonago , Alla Santa , Boscioro , Bottogno , Luganetto and Molinazzo are among them.

history

The village is first mentioned in 1300 under the then name de Viganello . In 1270 the possessions of the monastery of Sant'Abbondio of Como and in 1353 the tithe rights of the Rusca of Como are mentioned there.

The Santa Maria humiliation hospital in Lugano also had tithe rights here in 1320. Viganello belonged to the Concilium of Pregassona and 1335 mentioned as a community.
