Cureggia is a district of the city of Lugano in the Lugano Ost district , in the Lugano district in the Swiss canton of Ticino .

geography

It is located on a terrace of Monte Boglia above the core area of ​​Lugano. Until it was incorporated into the city of Lugano on April 4, 2004, it formed an independent political municipality . In 2000 it had 112 inhabitants.

history

Cureggia was first mentioned as Curezia in 1329 . In 1336 the Bishop of Como owned property here. The chapel of San Gottardo dates from 1561. Cureggia lived from mountain agriculture. Many residents fled the poor conditions through emigration.
