Villa Luganese is a quarter of the city of Lugano in the Lugano Nord district , in the Lugano district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland and is located at the entrance to Valcolla on the border with Italy .

geography

The village is 597 m above sea level. M at the foot of the Denti della Vecchia mountain .

history

A first reference to the village in 864 under the then name Colonaco , 1209 Coliono , then La Villa ; Lavilla 1419. It belonged to the rule of San Carpoforo of Como , then to the castellanza Sonvico , enjoyed an inner independence like the other villages of the castellanza Sonvico.

Merger with the city of Lugano

On September 30, 2007, the voters of Barbengo , Carabbia and Villa Luganese approved the incorporation of these three municipalities into the city of Lugano . The voters of the municipality of Cadro, however, rejected the merger. Although this made Villa Luganese an exclave of the city of Lugano, which in principle makes incorporation impossible, Villa Luganese was incorporated into the municipality of Lugano. The merger became final on April 20, 2008.
