Lugano Centro is a quarter of the Swiss city of Lugano in the Lugano West district , in the Lugano district of the Canton of Ticino . According to a survey from December 31, 2011, there are 5,392 inhabitants in Lugano Centro.

The area of the city quarter corresponds largely to the historical core of the city of Lugano. It is located to the southeast at the foot of the hill on which the Cathedral of San Lorenzo stands and on the shores of Lake Lugano .

In the early twentieth century, the district's character was completely changed when it was redesigned as a financial and commercial center. Apart from the sacred buildings, only a few secular buildings have survived from the former historical city.
