Flora Ruchat-Roncati , born Flora Ruchat (born June 4, 1937 in Mendrisio , Canton Ticino ; † October 24, 2012 in Zurich ) was a Swiss architect . She was considered an important representative of the "Ticino School".

Life

Flora Ruchat studied architecture at the ETH Zurich and worked for Rino Tami , among others . Between 1962 and 1971 she realized important buildings in Ticino together with Aurelio Galfetti and Ivo Trümpy and was considered an essential representative of the so-called "Ticino School". From 1971 she worked with her own atelier FRR in Riva San Vitale in the canton of Ticino, from 1975 to 1985 in Rome . From 1975 she took over responsibility for the design of the Lega Nazionale Coop. She worked with various architects and in 1996, together with Dolf Schnebli and Tobias Ammann (from 1991 as Schnebli Ammann Ruchat Architekten und Partner AG in Zurich; from 1996 Schnebli Ammann Ruchat Menz Architekten AG in Zurich and Agno), the Suglio office complex for the major bank UBS in Manno finished near Lugano . Between 1989 and 1998, together with Renato Salvi , she realized bridges and tunnel portals for the Jura motorway “Transjurane”.

In 1977 she taught architectural theory at the University of Reggio Calabria . She was visiting professor at ETH Zurich (1978/80), Syracuse University (1980), Cornell University (1980), University of Florence (1982), Bouakademie / Amsterdam (1983), University of La Sapienza and University of Rome III (1979/2000) inside. October 1, 1985, she received a call to the Chair of Architecture and Design at the ETH Zurich; she was the first full professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. She retired on September 30, 2002 . In 1999/01 and 2002/03 she was a member of the international design advisory board of the city of Salzburg .

Their designs were shaped by the work of Le Corbusier . She was a member of the Federation of Swiss Architects (BSA) (since 1978), the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects (SIA) , Federazione svizzera degli urbanisti (FSU) and the Italian Chamber of Architects OAR.
