Monument and donor

Victor Marcus (1849–1911) was senator from 1887 and mayor of Bremen in 1907 and 1909 . In 1883 he donated the first Marcus fountain in the Bürgerpark, which was built from 1866, and in 1908 the second Marcus fountain in the Liebfrauenkirchhof .

The fountain from 1889 to beautify the park was based on a design by August Töpfer . The figures come from the sculptor Diedrich Kropp and the metal jewelry from F. Kallmeyer.

The round fountain stick with cross-shaped projections and the large bronze fountain bowl stand in a round, stone enclosure . The figurative jewelry and the upper shell were dismantled in 1942 for the metal donation and put back into operation in 1959. In 1976 the fountain was added in a modified form and the upper shell was renewed; instead of the seahorses, there are mussel shells here today. The new versions of the fountain come from Klaus Homfeld .

The monument to Kurt von Goessel in Bremen was also made by the sculptor Kropp .
