Marcus Marius (Treasurer)

Marcus Marius came from the plebeian gens Maria and was around 125 BC. Chr. Bursar of the north of Campania situated Oscan city Teanum Sidicinum .

Gaius Sempronius Gracchus reports in a programmatic speech handed down in extracts from the colored writer Aulus Gellius that an unnamed Roman consul, while passing through Teanum Sidicinum, had the highly respected Marcus Marius flogged for an insignificant complaint. In the neighboring town of Cales there is also a Marcus Marius with a preserved inscription, probably from the 1st half of the 1st century BC. According to which he was the highest magistrate of this community with the title of praetor .
