academic career

Marcus Sandl studied history , political science and philosophy at the University of Regensburg from 1988 to 1992 . This was followed by a doctorate at the University of Giessen with the thesis " Economy of Space", a contribution to the development of political control knowledge and economic thinking in the 18th century. He received the venia legendi in November 2008, during his time as a research assistant and post-doctoral fellow at the History Department at the University of Konstanz . This resulted in the publication "Mediality and Event - A Contemporary History of the Reformation " in 2011 :

In this work, Sandl combines a detailed analysis of theological discourses of Reformation events with the latest approaches in media theory . The reviews praise, on the one hand, the thorough study of Latin source texts, the linguistic eloquence and meticulous examination of complex theological ideas and contemporary world views, as well as the remarkable eye for cultural-historical cross-connections; at the same time the requirement-rich and z. Sandl's partly hermetic writing style is criticized, but he nevertheless makes this work a “reading gain”. Sandl is also the editor of numerous anthologies on the history of media, Reformation and knowledge (among others, together with Rudolf Schlögl ).

In 2009, Marcus Sandl took on a supplementary professorship (W3) for modern history at the University of Konstanz.

Since September 2009, Sandl has been assistant professor for the mediality of the premodern at the University of Zurich .
