Markus Tegginger , also Tettinger (* 1540 in Radolfzell ; † February 20, 1600 ) was a German Catholic clergyman and university professor.

Tegginger studied from June 20, 1553 at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . During his studies he received a scholarship from a foundation of the cathedral capitular and professor Ludwig Ber . In 1556 he received the master's degree from the artist faculty (whose teaching was comparable to today's Studium generale ) and then studied theology . In 1559 he became a lecturer in the theological faculty, and around 1561 he was ordained a priest . Until 1565 he was vicar of the university parish in Ehingen , which belonged to the Freiburg University, then studied at the University of Bologna and completed his studies there on November 3, 1568 with a doctorate in theology.

In 1567 Melchior von Lichtenfels became auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Basel . The following year he was awarded the title of Bishop of Lydda . In 1592 he became a member of the Basel cathedral chapter . From 1573 to 1581 he was also a full professor of theology at the University of Freiburg. There he held several offices within the theological faculty, and from April 30 to October 31, 1576 he was rector of the university .

From 1581, Tegginger devoted himself to the Counter Reformation in the diocese of Basel. From 1568 he visited the entire diocese. For health reasons, he resigned from his position as auxiliary bishop in 1599.

In an unsigned and undated will, Tegginger donated money for a study foundation , which should enable six students to study at the university through scholarships. Preferred candidates were Tegginger's relatives and sons from his hometown Radolfzell. Attendance at the Jesuit College in Pruntrut , the secular seat of the exiled princedom of Basel, should be a prerequisite for the grant . The Tegginger Foundation was established on February 28, 1605 by the executors. Until the currency reform in 1948, foundation funds were used to award scholarships to study at the University of Freiburg.

The Tegging School in Radolfzell, which opened in 1899, bears his name.
