Maredudd ap Cynan († 1212 ) was a lord of the Welsh principality of Gwynedd .

He was a younger son of Cynan ab Owain , one of the sons of Owain Gwynedd . After his father's death in 1173 he succeeded him as ruler of Eifionydd and Ardudwy. He allied himself with his young cousin Llywelyn ap Iorwerth and after their victories over their uncles Rhodri and Dafydd took over from Owain in 1194 from his brother Gruffydd the rule over Merioneth . When his brother died in 1200, Maredudd also took control of the Lleyn peninsula . However, Llywelyn accused him of treason and drove him again from Lleyn in 1201 and from his other territories in 1202.

Together with his brother Gruffydd, Maredudd founded the Cistercian monastery Cymer Abbey in 1198 or 1199 .

His family later got back from Llywelyn ap Iorwerth Merioneth. They remained masters of Merioneth until they were driven out by Llywelyn ap Gruffydd in 1256 . Madog ap Llywelyn , the leader of the Welsh Rebellion from 1294 to 1295 , was a son of the last Lord of Merioneth.
