Marek Karpiński
Marek Karpiński (born March 25, 1948 ) is a Polish mathematician and computer scientist. He is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Bonn and a founding member of the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics .
His research areas are efficient algorithms , especially in randomized and approximate algorithms , in algorithmic molecular bioinformatics , in the theory of parallel and distributed systems, and fundamental questions of computational complexity and circuit theory. In addition, he also deals with methods of efficient approximation for geometric and combinatorial optimization problems , which turn out to be particularly persistent in exact calculation models. He has received several research awards.
In 1994 he and Dima Grigoriev received the Max Planck Research Award . In 2013 he was elected a member of the Academia Europaea .
