Mares is a manufacturer of diving equipment . The company's headquarters are in Rapallo , Italy. Mares belongs to the sporting goods manufacturer Head , along with other companies such as Tyrolia and Penn Racquet .

Foundation and company history

The origin of the company lies in a company founded in 1949 in Rapallo by the Italian Ludovico Mares under the name Mares Sub . Following the circumstances of the time and the image of diving at the time, the focus was initially on equipment for underwater hunting in Italian waters. The range and sales area were expanded considerably in the decades that followed, so that the company is now on the global market with its wide range of diving sports articles. Since it was sold by Ludovico Mares (1971), it has changed name and owner several times (among other things, it belonged to Austria Tabak as AMF Mares between 1972 and 1990 ) and has belonged as a separate brand to the Head Group since 1996 , which primarily focuses on tennis - and manufactures ski equipment. On December 11, 2013, Head announced that the diving organization SSI had been taken over and that Mares and SSI would therefore appear on the market together in the future.

Head's Chairman of the Board is currently Johan Eliasch, while Gerald Skrobanek is Vice President responsible for diving.
