Johan Carl Eliasch (born February 15, 1962 in Djursholm ) is a Swedish - British businessman, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of HEAD NV , based in Amsterdam and Kennelbach , an international sporting goods manufacturer. According to the Sunday Times Rich List 2020 , he is a multi-billionaire and one of the richest British people (as of 2020). On June 4th, 2021 Eliasch was elected as the new president of the international ski association FIS .

Political activities

Eliasch was politically active from an early age. From 1979 to 1982 he was chairman of the Swedish young conservative party Moderata ungdomsförbundet (MUF) in Djursholm. From 1999 to 2006 he was a member of the trade and industry delegation of the Federal President of Austria . Eliasch held various political functions for the British Conservative Party from 1999 to 2007 , including special advisor to the opposition Foreign Ministers Michael Howard , Francis Maude and Michael Ancram (1999 to 2006) and the opposition leaders William Hague and Iain Duncan Smith (1999 to 2006) as well as deputy treasurer of the party (2003 to 2007). From 2007 to 2010 he was appointed Special Envoy for Deforestation and Renewable Energy to then Prime Minister Gordon Brown , Labor Party , in the UK Government. As a member of the Shadow Foreign Office , he was the opposition's foreign policy spokesman. Business life

After graduating from Stockholm University and the Royal Institute of Technology, Eliasch left Sweden at the age of 22 and went to London to pursue his business career in the Tufting Group , restructuring and investing mainly in shipping and natural gas companies that were struggling in the market were to begin. Eliasch served as an advisory board for the World Peace Foundation from 1996 to 2002 and as a sports board for the Peres Center for Peace in Israel from 1997 to 2016 . He was also a member of the advisory board of the British Olympic Association from 2003 to 2012 , from 2004 to 2015 at the Center for Social Justice (CSJ), from 2005 to 2015 at the Société du Louvre and from 2013 to 2015 at Capstar . From 2002 to 2009 he served on the Board of Directors of the British Paralympic Association and from 2006 to 2013 of the International Management Group . Without holding any shares in the management, he was chairman and director of Starr Managing Agents from 2008 to 2015 , chairman of Investcorp Europe from 2010 to 2014 and director of Acasta Enterprise from 2015 to 2017 .

From 2008 to 2016 Eliasch was a member of the International Economic Council of the Mayor of London and from 2010 to 2016 also the Mayor of Jerusalem and Rome . At the time he was also a trustee of the Kew Foundation , patron of Stockholm University, and led the food, energy and water safety program at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).

Environmental activities

In 2005 Eliasch founded the Rainforest Trust and acquired a 1,600 square kilometer rainforest area near the Rio Madeira in the Amazon basin for protection purposes . The cost was about R $ 62.6 million . In the following year he founded the aid association Cool Earth with Frank Field , which promotes local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for the conservation of the rainforest and in 2010 already had over 120,000 registered members. In 2007, Eliasch was commissioned by the British government to prepare an independent report on the role of international financial mechanisms in the conservation of global forests in the fight against climate change. With the takeover of the insolvent Gethal in 2005, Eliasch stopped the logging and came into possession of a further 650 square kilometers of land in the southern Amazon region. Eliasch invited scientists to study the fauna and flora and look for unknown species .

Personal

Eliasch was married to the photographer and filmmaker Amanda Eliasch from 1988 to 2006 . Together they have two sons, Jack and Charles . The latter is an opera singer . Today Johan Eliasch lives in London.
