Margaret Southern

Margaret Southern (born February 26, 1931 in High River , Alberta ) is a Canadian riding stable owner . In 1975 she and her husband Ron founded the Spruce Meadows riding stable, which was expanded into the largest riding stable in the world within 28 years. Margaret Southern is the mother of show jumpers Linda Southern-Heathcott and Nancy Southern.

In 2006, she and her husband were inducted into the Hall of Fame for Canadian Sports . It received some of the highest Canadian awards. With the highest civil order, the Order of Canada , she received all three possible levels of distinction. She was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1987. In 1993 he was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada and in 2007 Companion of the Order of Canada.
