Margaret Varner
Margaret Varner (born October 4, 1927 in El Paso , Texas, married Margaret Bloss ) is a former American badminton , tennis , squash player and riding stable owner.
Career
Margaret Varner won the All England Badminton three times and the US Open Championships twice. She also had sporting success in tennis and squash . In squash, she was American champion four times in a row between 1960 and 1963 and was also called up to the national team. In 2000 she was inducted into the US Squash Hall of Fame by the American Squash Federation. Since she is also a member of the Hall of Fame of the American Badminton Association , Varner holds two records: She is the only American woman who has won a national title in both squash and badminton and is listed in both national hall of fames. With her entry into the final in the women's competition at Wimbledon in 1958 , she is also the only American sportswoman who played at the top level in all three racket disciplines. After her career in racket sport, she began a career in equestrian sports.
