Margaret Yorke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Margaret Yorke (born January 30, 1924 in Surrey , † November 17, 2012 in Long Crendon , Buckinghamshire ) was a British writer.

Life

Yorke lived in Dublin until 1937 . During World War II, she served as a driver with Woman's Royal Naval Service. She then became the first woman to work in a Christ Church library in Oxford .

Her books have been published since 1957, and since 1970 she has turned to crime writing with the novel "Dead in the Morning". She described her characters with great sensitivity and intensity and she managed to build tension at the right moment. Some compare her to Ruth Rendell , as both authors described the inner workings and motivations of their characters very precisely.

Yorke received less attention on the German book market. In June 2001, there was no German translation by Margaret Yorke in bookshops. All the editions mentioned here were out of print and only available in second-hand bookshops. This is why the English titles are also included in the list of publications. Yorke wrote in a way that was easy to understand, making it easy to read even for inexperienced people.
