Margarete Wittber

Margarete Wittber (born June 19, 1898 in Leipzig , † 1964 ) was a German teacher and writer .

Life

Margarete Wittber, who worked as a teacher in Lobstädt , mainly wrote books for young people . The Franz Schneider Verlag published her first three books for young people : in 1932 she published Len don't know what she wants and the following year its sequel Len knows what she wants . In 1934, Heinz the class chief followed . Her last work before the outbreak of World War II was the collection of stories. The Children of the Elephant House (1935).

In the GDR in the second half of the 1950s, the Evangelische Verlagsanstalt was able to publish some works again , including her last work, the novel Die blessed Else in Zunschwitz (1957).

In 1964 Margarete Wittber took her own life, possibly due to the threat of blindness.
