Margarete von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Margarete von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (* 1516 or 1517; † October 28, 1580 in Stauffenburg ) was a princess of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel and, by marriage, Duchess of Münsterberg , Oels and Bernstadt .

Life

Margarete was the fourth daughter of Duke Heinrich II of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1489–1568) from his first marriage to Maria (1496–1541), daughter of Count Heinrich of Württemberg .

On September 8, 1561, she married Duke Johann von Münsterberg and Oels (1509–1565) in Oels . As a Wittum, Margarete was given the assurance of Schloss and Herrschaft Frankenstein with the approval of the estates . After four years of childless marriage, Duke Johann died and Margarete's stepson Karl Christoph sold Frankenstein. Margarete got into a dispute with Karl Christoph and his heirs. Only on April 25, 1577, when Emperor Rudolf II intervened in his capacity as King of Bohemia, a comparison was reached.

Margarete had meanwhile returned to her homeland and lived at the court of her brother Julius , who made the office and Stauffenburg Castle available to her in 1569, where she devoted herself to caring for the poor, the sick and the needy and also died.
