Margaret of Kleve (1416–1444)

Margarete von Kleve (* February 23 or 24, 1416 ; † May 20, 1444 in Stuttgart ) was the wife of Dukes Wilhelm III. of Bavaria-Munich and Ulrich V. of Württemberg .

Margarete was born on February 23 or 24, 1416 as the eldest daughter of Count Adolf II of Kleve-Mark (Duke since 1417) and his second wife Maria of Burgundy. A marriage agreed in 1424 with Landgrave Ludwig I of Hesse did not materialize. She married on May 11, 1433 at the Council of Basel Wilhelm III. from Bayern-Munich . The sons Adolf (1434–1441) and Wilhelm (* / † 1435) resulted from the marriage, both of whom died early. After Wilhelm III. Having died in 1435, Margarete became the first wife of Ulrich V von Württemberg on January 29, 1441 in Stuttgart. The couple had a daughter, Katharina (1441–1497), who later became a Premonstratensian and Dominican . Margarete died on May 20, 1444.

Margarete von Kleve is a character in the 2011 and 2015 play of the Straubing Agnes Bernauer Festival .
