Margarete of Pfalz-Zweibrücken

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Margarete von Pfalz-Zweibrücken (* July 10, 1456 ; † June 16, 1514 ) was a Countess Palatine of Zweibrücken and by marriage Countess of Nassau-Wiesbaden-Idstein . She died as the abbess of the Marienberg monastery in Boppard .

Life

Margarete was the eldest child of the Count Palatine and Duke Ludwig I of Zweibrücken (1424–1489) from his marriage to Johanna (around 1435–1504), daughter of Antoine I of Croÿ , Count of Porcean and Guines.

Margarete's life is largely in the dark. Presumably she was married to Count Philipp von Nassau-Idstein (1450–1509), who was also a minor, in 1470 . The vows may have been canceled for unknown reasons. The connection remained childless and Margarete entered the Marienberg monastery in Boppard, where she was elected abbess after the death of Christine von Greiffenclau in 1484 and remained so until her death.
