Margarethenkirche (Stedtfeld)
The Margarethenkirche is the Evangelical Lutheran church in the district of Stedtfeld in the independent city of Eisenach in Thuringia .
history
The origins of the Margarethenkirche, a former fortified church within a castle complex, date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. The choir dates from around 1500, as well as the triumphal arch and the sacristy . The nave was rebuilt in 1721.
In April 1945 the church was badly damaged when a projectile hit the roof and detonated inside. When the building was being repaired, the earlier wooden barrel vault was replaced by a coffered ceiling . After 1990 the roof was re-covered and the interior repainted.
Furnishing
There is a tomb under the sacristy . Gravestones from the 17th and 18th centuries are exhibited in the nave .
