from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Margarita Chli (* 1983 ) is a computer scientist from Cyprus and Greece . She is an assistant professor at ETH Zurich and heads the Vision for Robotics Lab (V4RL). Chli is also Vice Director at the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (IRIS) at ETH Zurich and an Honorary Fellow at the University of Edinburgh . Her research focuses on Computer Vision for Robotics , in particular real-time perception for small aircraft, one of the greatest challenges of computer vision for robotics. In 2017, Chli won the Zonta Prize; the Zonta organization of Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein describes her as "one of the most influential women in the world".

Education and academic background

Chli studied Information and Computing Engineering at Cambridge University ( Trinity College ), where she earned her Bachelor and Master degrees. She did her PhD at Imperial College London with a thesis entitled "Applying Information Theory to Efficient SLAM". From 2010 to 2013 she was Deputy Director, Senior Researcher and Lecturer at the Autonomous Systems Lab at ETH Zurich, from 2013 to 2015 Chancellor's Fellow and Assistant Professor at the Institute of Perception Action and Behavior at the University of Edinburgh. Since 2015 she has held the SNSF assistant professorship in computer vision for robotics at the ETH Zurich.
