Margie Joseph

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Margie Joseph (* 19th August 1950 as Margaret Marie Joseph in Pascagoula , Mississippi ) is an American Soul - and R & B singer, who get 13 hits in the US R & B charts from 1970 to 1984 as a whole.

biography

Margie Joseph, who sang in the church choir as a child, celebrated her greatest success with a soul cover of the Paul McCartney ballad My Love , which not only reached number ten on the R&B chart in 1974, but also number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 . Although many critics saw Joseph in a league with Aretha Franklin at the time and especially her albums for the Volt and Atlantic labels were praised, Joseph never made the big breakthrough. Other top 20 hits were a recording with the Philly soul group Blue Magic , What's Come over Me (1975), Hear the Words, Feel the Feeling (1976) and, after a few quiet years, Knockout (1982). Her most successful LP was her debut Margie Joseph Makes a New Impression , which in 1971 stayed in the American album charts for 14 weeks.

Joseph has worked with many top-class producers over the years, for example with Arif Mardin on the albums from 1973 to 1975, with Lamont Dozier on Hear the Words, Feel the Feeling (1976) or with Johnny Bristol on Feeling My Way (1978). She also sang on the soundtrack for the Blaxploitation film Come Back Charleston Blue, for which Quincy Jones and Donny Hathaway were responsible, and in 1981 in the background of the LP Higher Plane by Al Green .

After a last LP for the Ichiban label, Joseph left the music business and devoted himself to gospel music and her family.
