Margo Kõlar

Margo Kõlar (born October 2, 1961 in Tartu ) is an Estonian composer.

life and work

Margo Kõlar was born the son of the Estonian conductor Erich Kõlar and the ballet dancer Elena Kõlar-Poznjak. In 1986 he graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory (now the Estonian Academy of Music and Drama ) in composition . In 1999 he passed his master's examination with Eino Tamberg . In the meantime he has obtained his doctorate.

From 1986 to 1993 Kõlar worked as a sound engineer at Estonian Radio and at the Estonian State Puppet Theater. Since 1996 he has been teaching computer music at the Heino Eller Music School in Tartu. In addition, he led the Gloria Chamber Choir from 1987, the Heinavanker sacred music ensemble from 1996 and the orchestra of the Tartu Music School from 1999. Since 1987, Kõlar has been a member of the Estonian Composers' Union ( Estonian Eesti Heliloojate Liit ).

Numerous compositions by Margo Kõlar were performed, including the ballet Kuuhullud kassid (1996), several cantatas and ... vaid üks ainus sõna ... for symphony orchestra (1999).
