Margrét Tryggvadóttir (born May 20, 1972 in Kópavogur ) is an Icelandic writer and politician of the Social Democratic Alliance . She used to belong to the citizens' movement and the resulting parties "The Movement" and Dögun ; 2009-2010 she was chairman of the "movement".

Life

Margrét Tryggvadóttir holds a Bachelor's degree in General Literature from the University of Iceland . Among other things, she ran galleries, worked as a literary critic for the newspaper DV from 1996 to 1999 and was an editor at the publishers Mál og menning and Edda . She has written children's books and translated several books. Her translations include the Icelandic Kóralína edition of Neil Gaiman's novella Coraline .

From 2009 to 2013 Margrét Tryggvadóttir was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the southern constituency , first as a representative of the citizens' movement (Borgarahreyfingin), then the resulting party Hreyfingin ("The Movement"), of which she was chair from 2009 to 2010. In 2013 she was a co-founder of the Dögun party , which was unable to move into the Althing in the 2013 parliamentary elections in Iceland . In 2014 she described her experiences in politics in the book Útistöður .

For the general election in Iceland in 2016 , she announced that she would be running on the Alliance's list in the southwestern constituency . Since she would have taken one of the lower places in the list due to her age (one of the three top candidates had to be under 35 according to the rules of her party), she ultimately renounced the candidacy. The party was unable to win seats in this constituency in 2016. For the early election in 2017 , she took second place in the Allianz list in the same constituency. Only Guðmundur Andri Thorsson , who was on the 1st list position, was elected by the candidates of the Alliance in this constituency . In November 2018 and October 2019 she was Varaþingmaður for Guðmundur Andri of the Alliance.

Awards

In 2006 Margrét Tryggvadóttir won the Icelandic Children's Literature Prize ( Íslensku barnabókaverðlaunin ) together with the illustrator Halldór Baldursson for the book Sagan af undurfögru prinsessunni og hugrakka prinsinum hennar .
