Margret Friedrich (born July 20, 1954 in Erlstätt ) is a historian from Germany and has been Vice Rector for Teaching and Students at the University of Innsbruck since 2006 .

Life

Margret Friedrich was born in Erlstätt (today a district of Grabenstätt ) in the Upper Bavarian district of Traunstein in 1954. From 1974 to 1976 she studied psychology at the University of Munich and from 1983 to 1988 history and German studies at the University of Salzburg , where she obtained her master's degree in 1988 and her doctorate in 1996. She worked on two research projects of the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research (FWF) on women's history as well as the Salzburg source book “The Other Story” and was secretary of the Commission for Modern History of Austria (1992–1993). From 1992 to 1996 she worked as a contract assistant at the Institute for History at the University of Salzburg. In 2002 Friedrich completed her habilitation at the University of Innsbruck, where she has been teaching since 1996 in the fields of Austrian history of the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, women's and gender history as well as theories, methods and history of historical studies.
