history

Erlstätt milestone , part of a wayside shrine near Schmidham

The Roman road Via Julia ran immediately to the northwest of Erlstätt . The Erlstätt milestone was built into the Erlstätt churchyard wall until 1780. It then became part of a wayside shrine that is still erected in the immediate vicinity of the former Roman road and was only recognized as a milestone in 1840 .

The Notitia Arnonis mentions “Ad Erlastedi ecclesia cum territorio” (translated: In Erlstätt a church with land ). The parish seat of the original parish Erlstätt was moved to Haslach by 1263 at the latest . The political community Erlstätt came into being with the community edict of 1818. In 1950 Erlstätt became an independent Catholic parish again . On May 1, 1978, the previous communities of Grabenstätt, Erlstätt and Oberhochstätt were merged to form a new municipality called Grabenstätt.
