Margrit Weber-Röllin (born August 14, 1937 in Baar ZG ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ). She was the first woman in the Schwyz cantonal government and the first woman Landammann von Schwyz.

Life

Margrit Röllin is the daughter of Clemenz Röllin and Frieda born Inglin. Her parents ran a farm in Baar. Röllin attended primary school from 1944 to 1950 and secondary school in Baar from 1950 to 1952. From 1952 to 1957 she trained as a primary school teacher at the private teacher training college at Theresianum Ingenbohl . She was then employed as a primary school teacher in Wilen ( Freienbach ) from 1957 to 1961 , in Baar from 1961 to 1963 and from 1963 to 1965 in Pfäffikon (SZ) . In 1963 she married Hans Weber. After the birth of the first of two children in 1966, she regularly took on substitutes and temporary posts at primary schools.

Margrit Weber-Röllin's interest in politics had already been aroused before the introduction of the right to vote for women . She secretly attended community meetings in her place of residence in Freienbach and was active there on the school board from 1968. In 1972 she joined the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP). After her election to the Schwyz Cantonal Council in 1980, she left the school council and was a member of the cantonal parliament until 1988. 1983 to 1988 she was also president of the CVP Freienbach, 1984 to 1988 member of the cantonal education council and 1984 to 1998 vice-president of the CVP women of the canton Schwyz. In 1988 she was the first woman to be elected to the government council of the canton of Schwyz, where she was the director of education until her resignation in 1996. From 1992 to 1994 she also acted as the first Mrs. Landammann of the Canton of Schwyz.

Margrit Weber-Röllin volunteered in various institutions. She was a board member of the Cantonal Women's Association of Schwyz for twelve years. In 1978, together with her party colleague Hedy Jager, she founded the group Aktuell 78 (from the 1980s, Aktuell 80), which aimed to attract more women to politics. The group's activities included attending council meetings and organizing courses and lectures. From 1990 to 2009 Weber-Röllin presided over the non-profit society of the canton Schwyz. She has been a board member of the Vögele Kultur Zentrum in Pfäffikon since 1998 and has been a member of the Insel Ufnau project group since 2002 .
