The Theresianum Ingenbohl is a private school with a cantonal mandate. It is located on the monastery hill in the municipality of Ingenbohl . The educational offer includes a grammar school , a technical middle school and a secondary school . It is sponsored by the foundation of the same name and the building is owned by the neighboring monastery .

history

The origins of the Theresianum can be traced back to Theodosius Florentini , who also established the collegium Schwyz cantonal school , which was then the Collegium Maria Hilf , which was competing with the Theresianum . In 1853, the Kreuzspital, including an orphanage, primary school and pounder house, was opened in Chur . In 1857 the building was expanded to include a daughter school with a seminar. In the absence of support from the Chur city council, the daughter school was moved to Ingenbohl in 1860, where the boarding school and teacher’s seminar was run in a side wing of the monastery. This is considered to be the birth of today's Theresianum and was also seen as the cornerstone for the 150th anniversary celebrations in 2010. The first headmistress in Ingenbohl was the then General Superior Mother Maria Theresia Scherer . Under their leadership, the construction of today's Art Nouveau building between the monastery and the monastery forest began in 1888. In 1889 the kindergarten teachers' seminar and the secondary school were introduced, in 1908 the commercial school, in 1916 the seminar for home economics teachers and in 1925 the Theresianum was approved to run a type B grammar school. From 1968 to 1971 the building underwent extensive renovation work, and in In 1974/75 the huge Immaculata Church on the east side was converted into a double hall and church. From 1976 to 1980, extensions were realized in the form of two separate buildings: the music house and the sports house including the double sports hall, swimming pool with 3 and 1 meter diving tower and 25 meter pool and workshop. In 1995 the business school and the modern-language grammar school were added to the educational catalog before the new Federal Maturity Regulations (MAR) were adopted in 1998. In 1997, Ingenbohl Abbey handed over the running of the school to the newly established Theresianum Ingenbohl Foundation . 1999 was TiSi (of T heritable C -called afeteria) cafeteria put into operation. The canton's first technical secondary school was introduced in 2002; for the first time in the history of the school, male students are also admitted to this course. In 2006, both the kindergarten and home economics seminars closed their doors, as they were merged with the Rickenbach teachers' seminar to form the new PHZ Schwyz at the Goldau location . The capacities freed up were compensated for by the introduction of the orientation level (7th to 9th school year). From 2007 to 2009 the boarding school was rebuilt and expanded by renovating the former nurses' room.
