Annemarie Huber-Hotz (born August 16, 1948 in Baar , canton of Zug ; entitled to live there ; † August 1, 2019 near Schwarzsee , canton of Friborg ) was a Swiss civil servant . From 2000 to 2007 she was Federal Chancellor and the first woman in this office. She was a member of the FDP .

Life

Huber-Hotz attended primary and secondary school in Baar, after which she graduated from the cantonal school in Zug . She studied sociology , ethnology and political science at the Universities of Bern , Uppsala (Sweden) and Geneva . In 1976/77 she completed a postgraduate course in spatial planning at the ETH Zurich . During her studies, she also worked as a translator for the International Labor Organization in Geneva and was a member of the Office for Spatial Planning of the Canton of Zug

In 1978 Huber-Hotz joined the federal administration and initially worked in the General Secretariat of the Federal Assembly . From 1981 she headed the secretariat of the Council of States , and from 1989 she also headed the parliamentary scientific service. In 1992 she was promoted to General Secretary of the Federal Assembly. After Chancellor François Couchepin announced his resignation, the Federal Assembly appointed his successor on December 15, 1999. Huber-Hotz prevailed against Vice Chancellor Achille Casanova ( CVP ) in the fourth ballot and was thus the first woman to head the Federal Chancellery .

Huber-Hotz took office at the beginning of 2000. It reorganized the Federal Chancellery and divided it into four management areas (Federal Council, Planning / Strategy, Information / Communication and Internal Services). Under her leadership, e-government was set up and the legal basis for e-voting was created. In February 2007, she announced that she would be waiving a third term and resigned at the end of the year. As Federal Chancellor, she was an ex-officio member of the management of the FDP and the board of its parliamentary group.

From 2007 to 2011 Huber-Hotz was President of the Swiss Charitable Society , from 2008 she was a member of the Swiss Mountain Aid Council , from 2008 to 2010 President of the Insel Foundation, from July 2008 President of the Swiss Banking Ombudsman Foundation and from 2011 she was a member of the Graduate Board of Trustees Institute IHEID in Geneva. From 2011 to 2019 Annemarie Huber-Hotz was President of the Swiss Red Cross .

Annemarie Huber-Hotz died on a hike with her family in the Schwarzsee area in the canton of Friborg at the age of 70 of acute heart failure. She was married and had three children. In addition to German , she also spoke English , French and Swedish .
