Edmund von Steiger
Karl Friedrich Edmund von Steiger (born September 8, 1836 in Bern ; † February 26, 1908 there ) was a Swiss pastor and canton politician .
He studied theology at the Universities of Basel and Bern , and was a member of the Zofingia and the Corps Friso-Luneburgia Göttingen. Between 1862 and 1870 he worked as a reformed pastor in the Saanen parish and in the Gsteig parish near Interlaken . From 1878 until his death he was a member of the government council of the canton of Bern and was its president in 1881/1882, 1894/1895 and 1902/1903. He was also a member of the Nationalrat , the large chamber of the Swiss parliament, from 1888 to 1890 and from 1891 to 1908 .
From 1905 until his death he was President of the Swiss Red Cross . His successor was the Zurich architect and politician Hans Konrad Pestalozzi .
