Kurt Bolliger

Kurt Bolliger (born  November 23, 1919 in Siders ; †  April 27, 2008 in Boll ) was a Swiss corps commander , from 1973 to 1980 chief of the air force in the Swiss army and from 1982 to 1988 president of the Swiss Red Cross .

Life

Kurt Bolliger was born in 1919 in Sierre and completed a commercial and technical training in his home town after attending school. From 1942 he was an instruction officer in the Swiss Air Force, from 1953 to 1960 he taught as a lecturer at the military science department of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). With the rank of corps commander, he was head of the air and anti-aircraft troops of the Swiss Army from 1973 to 1980.

In 1982 he became President of the Swiss Red Cross (SRK) and by virtue of this office ( ex officio ) was also one of several Vice-Presidents and, after the death of the Spaniard Enrique de la Mata Gorostizaga, temporarily acting President of the League of Red Cross Societies today's International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies . He held both positions until 1988. In addition, he was from 1990 to 1998 and Vice President from 1998 to 2000 President of the Foundation Board of the Swiss Air Rescue and 1981-1989 Mayor of the municipality Vechigen in the canton of Bern . He died in Boll in 2008 .
