Karl Kennel
Karl Kennel (born June 30, 1929 in Sins ; † June 20, 1998 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss veterinarian , canton politician and from 1988 to 1996 president of the Swiss Red Cross .
biography
Karl Kennel was born in Sins in 1929 and studied veterinary medicine at the Universities of Friborg , Zurich and Bern , which he completed with a doctorate . He then worked from 1956 to 1971 as a veterinarian in the community of Root in the canton of Lucerne . From 1963 to 1971 he was a member of the Lucerne Cantonal Parliament for the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP) and of the cantonal government from 1971 to 1987 as a member of the government of the medical and welfare department.
He was also temporarily President of the Swiss Medical Directors Conference and the Society of Central Switzerland Veterinarians. In 1988 he took over the office of President of the Swiss Red Cross (SRK) from Kurt Bolliger . His successor was the former ambassador Franz Muheim in 1996 . Two years later he died in Lucerne .
