Thomas Heiniger

Thomas Heiniger (born May 29, 1957 in Zurich ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ). From 1994 to 2007 he was mayor of Adliswil . From 2007 to 2019 he was a member of the government of the Canton of Zurich and headed the health department. He left the Zurich government in May 2019. Today he is President of the Swiss Red Cross and Spitex Switzerland; Chairman of the Board of Directors of Axsana AG and member of the Board of Directors of Oase Holding AG and Zoo Zürich AG.

biography

Heiniger grew up in Zurich-Wollishofen . After graduating from high school in 1976, he studied law at the University of Zurich . Heiniger completed his studies in 1985 with a doctorate on the subject of "The exceptional decision, investigations into exceptional authorization and exceptional authorization". His academic years were interrupted by lengthy military service in Chur and Andermatt . Until his election to the government council in spring 2007, Thomas Heiniger worked as a lawyer and partner in a law firm .

He has been President of Spitex Switzerland since June 1, 2019 . Since July 1, 2019, he has presided over the Swiss Red Cross, succeeding Annemarie Huber-Hotz . He is a member of the Board of Directors of Zoo Zürich AG and a member of the Board of Directors of Oase Holding AG as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors of axsana AG.

Thomas Heiniger has been married since 1980, has three children and lives in Adliswil.

Heiniger started his political career at the age of 21. From 1978 to 1980 he worked in the Zurich 2 election office . After moving to Adliswil, he was elected to the Adliswil school administration in 1982. In 1986 he was elected to the Adliswil City Council . Heiniger was head of the youth, leisure and sport department for eight years . In the 1994 elections he was elected mayor elected by Adliswil. From 1999 he was also a member of the Cantonal Council . On April 15, 2007 he was elected to the Zurich Government Council, on April 4, 2011 he was confirmed. In 2019, he did not stand for re-election.
