The Church of the Conception of the Virgin Mary (Polish: Kościół Niepokalanego Poczęcia Najświętszej Maryi Pann ) or Church of St. Lazarus (Polish: Kościół św. Łazarza ) in Krakow is a Catholic Baroque church at 19 Mikołaja Kopernika Street in the Wesoła district .
history
In 1634 the foundation stone was laid for the construction of a new church for the Order of the Discalced Carmelites in the Kraków suburb of Wesoła. Due to the Swedish Flood , the building could not be inaugurated until 1683. The church was destroyed during the Polish-Russian War in 1772 and rebuilt by the Carmelites between 1780 and 1782. In 1787 the church was given to the Order of the Cooperative of the Daughters of Christian Love of St. Vincent de Paul , who built a monastery and the hospital of St. Lazarus next to the church. The church has belonged to the Lazarists since 1863 and the monastery and hospital building is used as a university hospital by the medical faculty of the Jagiellonian University.
