history
The Church and Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites were built from 1682 to 1732 in the Baroque style. The Great Northern War delayed construction because the Swedes held the monastery. Szymon Czechowicz painted the four altarpieces . During the Second World War the church was located in the area of the Jewish Ghetto and was destroyed by the SS when the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was suppressed in 1943 . It was rebuilt from 1951 to 1956 after the Second World War. In 1962, as part of the expansion of today's Solidarność Avenue, the church was moved 21 meters to the north.
