The Birth of Mary is the Roman Catholic Church of the Bolanden parish in the Donnersbergkreis . The church on the Weitersberg opposite Neu-Bolanden Castle on the road to Marnheim is today a branch church of the parish of St. Anna in Kirchheimbolanden in the Speyer diocese . The church can seat 220 people.

history

At the beginning of the 20th century, Bolanden was parish in the Protestant and Roman Catholic churches in Kirchheimbolanden . The Roman Catholic community in Bolanden was striving for its own church, but the unfavorable number of only 300 Catholics in the 1100-inhabitant community seemed to make this impossible. In 1911 a church building association was founded that collected donations for the construction of a new parish church for the communities of Bolanden and Marnheim. In fact, a total of 30,000 marks could be collected by 1920, but hyperinflation in 1923 ruined all efforts. But they did not give up, collected donations again and, through a donation from a farmer, they were able to obtain a plot of land on the southern outskirts of Bolanden that was sufficiently dimensioned for the church, the rectory and the rectory garden. When the decision was made on July 10, 1927 to start at least the shell construction with start-up capital of 20,000 marks plus a loan of 10,000 marks , the Speyer diocese contributed a larger amount of money from church tax funds so that construction could begin.

After the building permit was granted on May 28, 1929, the first groundbreaking began on July 22, the foundation stone was laid on August 25 with a solemn consecration by Bishop Ludwig Sebastian from Speyer. The church was officially consecrated on October 12, 1930.

In 1961 the rectory was built lengthways behind the church. After giving up the rectory in Bolanden, the rectory is now rented out.

Until January 1, 2016, Bolanden was the seat of a parish within the parish community of Kirchheimbolanden, to which the Marnheim branch with the branch church Herz Jesu, built in 1966, still belonged. The latter was profaned on December 7, 2018 due to structural damage . With the structural reform in the diocese of Speyer, Bolanden became a branch church of the parish of St. Anna in Kirchheimbolanden.
